Workers Compensation Board of Prince Edward Island

Workplace Health & Safety Conference focuses on safety culture

April 25, 2013

The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) of Prince Edward Island is pleased to host its annual Workplace Health & Safety Conference on April 26, 2013. The theme for this year’s event, which is being held at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, is Working Together Toward a Culture of Safety.

“In order to create a culture of workplace safety on Prince Edward Island, we must believe that safety is a priority, have the knowledge to put safe work practices in place and make a coordinated effort to keep each other  safe,”  said Nancy Guptill, Chair of the Workers Compensation Board. “It is the WCB’s goal to educate and inspire our delegates to promote a safety culture, in their workplaces and their communities.”

The Workplace Health & Safety Conference sessions have been designed to cultivate a safety mindset by taking a multifaceted approach to workplace safety. Workshops will examine the attitudinal drivers of safety success, such as engagement, motivation and mindfulness. Safety will be approached from a diversity of perspectives, including parents of young workers and those who have been affected by workplace tragedies. Workshops will also provide information on a variety of safety topics, including essential skills training, shift work, eye safety and industrial ergonomics.

The conference key note speaker is Wilson Bateman, safety consultant and author of 7 Safety Habits That Could Save Your Life. Mr. Bateman takes a fun and refreshing approach to improving safety culture by evaluating habits in all aspects of life, in the workplace, on the road and at home.
