Director, Claims and Compensation
Full-Time Permanent (Excluded) Position

The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) helps to build safe and healthy workplaces in PEI and provides benefits and services to reduce the impact of work-related injuries. The Claims and Compensation Division assists injured workers and their employers with safe and timely recovery and return to work services, and comprehensive workers compensation benefits.

The Director, Claims and Compensation is a senior level position that provides leadership and strategic direction for the Claims and Compensation Division, a team of dedicated professionals specializing in claim intake, adjudication, case management, temporary and long-term benefits, and healthcare and rehabilitation services.

This position is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and direction to the management team of the Division and contracted service providers, and for creating a fair and inclusive team environment.

The Director, Claims and Compensation reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Providing strategic advice to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Monitoring and reporting results to the CEO on the achievement of Divisional objectives.
  • Implementing operational and strategic plans within the Division.
  • Providing advice to the CEO and other Directors in matters pertaining to legislation, policy, process, and operations as they related to compensation benefits and services for workers and employers.
  • Providing direction and supervision to Divisional senior staff.
  • Promoting a collaborative and innovative environment within the Division, the organization, and externally with all stakeholders.
  • Evaluating and determines changes in workflow and programs to improve quality of services.
  • Participating in the strategic planning process for the Workers Compensation Board, legislative review processes, and stakeholder consultation processes.
  • Leading the Division management team and contracted service providers in developing and implementing policies, procedures and processes to ensure timely and sound adjudication decisions, improved return to work outcomes, and service excellence to all stakeholders.
  • Working responsibly to follow safe work practices as defined by the organization.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a relevant Post-Secondary Degree, such as Public Administration, Law, Health Sciences or Social Sciences. Preference given to those with a Master’s Degree in a related discipline. Candidates shall have extensive (5 plus years) management experience at a senior level. Training in management, supervision, and administration is an asset. This position requires a broad knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act and its application, medical terminology, as well as skills in issues managements, communications, client focused environments, public presentations, budget management, policy development, strategic planning, and written communication. Computer skills are essential. Bilingual in both French and English would be considered an asset.

Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered and must be articulated in the application process.

Salary: Excluded Level 27: $57.88 - $72.35 per hour
