IT Infrastructure Administrator
Full-Time Permanent Position

The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) helps to build safe and healthy workplaces in PEI and provides benefits and services to reduce the impact of work-related injuries.

The IT Infrastructure Administrator is a senior technical position that is responsible for the proficient design, installation, optimization, administration and support of all Workers Compensation Board servers, storage, networks, backups, printing, virtual infrastructure, and database related components. This position provides technical and technological leadership to the WCB IT Management, consulting and expertise to project teams and divisions throughout the WCB. One of this position’s primary focuses is to implement and/or continually assess the WCB technical infrastructure architectures changes in the areas of server, storage, network communication, desktop, telecommunications, and printing infrastructure environments.

The IT Infrastructure Administrator reports to the Manager, Innovation and Technology. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides technical support, leadership, and consulting across the organization in the areas of technology infrastructure (servers/networks/hardware and data storage/transmission).
  • Recognizes infrastructure technology opportunities and generate strategies for implementation.
  • Provides server administration and support services for database servers, application servers, file servers, internet (web) and intranet servers.
  • Provides network administration and support services for wireless, switching, routing, firewall and VPN.
  • Develops processes for ongoing management of the server and database environment.
  • Develop, implements and monitors recovery plans for servers (including backup strategies).
  • Manages security profiles for application functionality and data access.
  • Ensures the secure availability of systems and services, and the confidentiality and integrity of information.
  • Provides database management system support for applications.
  • Administers active directory associated services, including VPN integration for secure remote access of WCB infrastructure for contractors and WCB employees.
  • Administers M365 environment including configuration and user administration.
  • Contributes to the development of an effective Innovation and Technology team.

The IT Infrastructure Administrator must be able to independently plan and determine the steps, procedures, and timelines required to complete and monitor assigned duties and tasks.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a post-secondary degree in Computer Science or a college diploma in a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree and/or diploma in the field of Information Technology supplemented by additional course work in network, server, storage, and database administration. Must have extensive experience in the management, administration and support of networks, servers, storage, and databases.

The successful candidate will have strong analytical, problem solving, and oral and written communication skills. Must be proficient with principles, techniques and methodologies involved in the administering of networks, servers, storage, and databases. Knowledge of data network system architectures, LAN/WAN configurations and inter-relationships would be considered an asset.

Preference will be given to qualified internal candidates.

Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered and must be articulated in the application process.

Bilingual in both French and English would be considered an asset.

A satisfactory criminal records check is required for this position.

Position Available: Permanent Full-Time Position
Location: Charlottetown, PE
Salary: Level 18: $35.33 - $44.16 per hour
