Workers Compensation Board of Prince Edward Island

Payments

We know that employers have additional pressures right now as a result of managing their businesses through COVID-19. WCB will defer all assessment due dates related to 2020 employer payrolls. This temporary change means that covered employers will not have to pay WCB premiums until June 30, 2020. Neither interest nor penalties will accrue during this time.

Employers are asked to submit any revisions to their 2020 payroll estimates to the WCB before May 15th to ensure that it is reflected on their June statement in assessment amounts due.

For further details, see our Frequently Asked Questions section.

Assessments are paid as an annual lump sum, through semi-annual billing, or with our monthly assessment payment option.

The WCB has a number of options available to you for the payment of employer assessments. Payments can be made:
  • Electronically, through the Employer Assessment Payment option of WCB Online Services

Annual Lump Sum Payment Option

You will receive an annual statement of account after registration or renewal, outlining your assessment and the amount payable. Please submit payment in full, within thirty days from the statement date.

You may choose to pay your bill in installments throughout the year, however, outstanding balances are subject to service charges at a rate of 1.5% per month on any overdue balance.

Monthly Assessment Payment Option

The WCB offers a voluntary monthly assessment payment option (MAPO) for filing and payment of assessments.

If you choose to participate in the MAPO program,
  • Your premiums will be based on your actual monthly payroll.
  • Payments are made monthly.
  • There is no need to estimate your payroll as part of the registration renewal process.
Each month, MAPO employers are required to file the amount of their previous month's payroll, together with the required assessment payment. Remittance forms are mailed to employers each month for this purpose. For your convenience, MAPO Remittances may be filed electronically using WCB Online Services.

To enroll in the MAPO program, visit the Online Services section of this website. You may also sign up for the MAPO program by completing the Monthly Assessment Payment Option (MAPO) application form ES-05 and submitting it to the WCB Office.
